Rankings Explained
How you earn ranking points, and how you hold on to them. Separate lists are kept for men and women.
The short version
Four things to know
-
01
Enter and play
Every NI Padel ranking event carries points, but they start when you win something. You need to play at least one match, and a walkover on its own does not count.
-
02
Points follow the result
How far your pair goes decides the points, and the grade of the event decides how big they are. Both partners receive the full amount, and nothing is split.
-
03
Your best five count
Your ranking is the total of your five highest results from the previous 52 weeks. Play more and only the best five count; play fewer and all of them do. At most four of the five may come from Grade 4.
-
04
Points expire at 52 weeks
A result drops out of your total 52 weeks after the tournament finished. Rankings move because results expire as well as because new ones arrive.
Points
What a result is worth
| Result | Grade 1 G1 | Grade 2 G2 | Grade 3 G3 | Grade 4 G4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Winner Winner | 1,500 | 700 | 300 | 125 |
| Runner-up Runner-up | 1,050 | 490 | 210 | 85 |
| Semi-finalist / 3rd–4th Semi-final | 675 | 315 | 130 | 50 |
| Quarter-finalist / 5th–8th Quarter-final | 375 | 175 | 70 | 25 |
| Reached the knockout Knockout | 225 | 105 | 42 | 15 |
| Bowl winner Bowl winner | 120 | 56 | 22 | 8 |
| Bowl runner-up Bowl final | 60 | 28 | 11 | 4 |
| Group stage Group stage | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Where an event does not use a straight knockout draw, the equivalent finishing positions are published before it starts. What the grades mean.
Worked example
Best five, last 52 weeks
A player with seven results. Five count, one is their sixth-best, and one has aged out.
- 3 weeks ago Grade 2 runner-up Counts 490
- 11 weeks ago Grade 3 winner Counts 300
- 19 weeks ago Grade 3 semi-final Counts 130
- 28 weeks ago Grade 4 winner Counts 125
- 40 weeks ago Grade 3 quarter-final Counts 70
- 47 weeks ago Grade 4 semi-final Sixth best, does not count 50
- 58 weeks ago Grade 3 runner-up Over 52 weeks, expired 210
- Ranking total 1,115
When that 47-week-old result expires, the sixth-best one starts counting instead, so a ranking can move without the player entering anything.
Detail
The bits people ask about
- Points are yours, not your pair’s
- They belong to you individually. Change partner as often as you like, and you keep everything you have earned.
- Both of you get the full amount
- Win a Grade 3 and you each get 300, not 150 apiece.
- Entries use the pair’s combined total
- For acceptance and seeding at Grades 1–3, your points and your partner’s are added together.
- One event, one score
- You are awarded the points for your best finishing position, once. Coming through qualifying earns nothing separately, and a Bowl result is not added on top of a main draw one.
- At most four Grade 4 results
- Grade 4 is the one grade with a rating cap on the door, so a ranking covering the whole series should not be buildable out of it alone. No more than four of your five counting results may come from Grade 4, and the fifth has to come from Grade 3 or above.
- The Bowl scores, but it does not stack
- Winning the Bowl carries points, and so does reaching its final. They are not added on top of a main draw result: you are scored once, on the better of the two.
- Men’s and women’s are separate
- Two ranking lists, always. A mixed event only counts where it is advertised as a ranking event with published points.
- Two Grade 4 wins and you move up
- Win two Grade 4 events and you graduate to Grade 3 for good. Everything you have already earned at Grade 4 keeps counting for its full 52 weeks.
- Level players share a rank
- A tie on total is separated by your highest single counting result, then your second highest, and so on, and after that by whoever reached their best result most recently. Only players level on every one of those share a position, and then the next rank skips, so a tie for third reads 3, 3, 5.
Rankings are updated once results are verified, so there is a short delay after an event finishes. Spotted something wrong? Tell us within seven days of the results being published.
